Never! I mean, even after I had moved to North Carolina and had gotten my foot in the door of NASCAR. Remember, I’m a guy who barely got my high school diploma and was working in a junkyard. We could spruce that up a bit and call it a recycled parts supplier, but the truth is it was a plain ole junkyard.
To know 40-plus years later that I won 23 Cup Series races, including two Daytona 500s, and now I’m in my 21st year with NASCAR on FOX, there is no way I could have even dreamed it could have happened. I could not have imagined it. The unknowns were endless when I made the decision to move to television in 2001, but my broadcast career has been extremely rewarding.
