


Miss Lewter was born May 16, 1989, in Ahoskie, NC. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University, Greensboro NC with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 2011. While at NC A&T she was very involved on campus. She was a dancer in the Marching Band, member of NSBE, and numerous honor societies. Miss Lewter also joined Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she spent time serving others.
She began her career as an electrical engineer with the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in Patuxent River, Maryland in July 2011, where she serves in the Avionics Department.
Miss. Lewter currently is the Lead Engineer for the AAR-47 Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) for PMA 272: Advanced Tactical Aircraft Protection Systems. She leads and manages engineering activities for the AAR-47 Missile Warning System relating to the design, development, fabrication, installation, modification, sustainment, and/or analysis of the systems and the systems components. She ensures appropriate systems engineering technical and technical management processes are properly applied to functional specialty activities that support her Integrated Product Team environment.
Working with her team and industry companies, Ms. Lewter played a key role in helping to cultivate their technology to an end product in support of the Department of Defense and the naval fleet. She has been recognized by the PEO (U&W) RDML Mathias Winter as “epitomizing the technical expertise, innovative spirit and bold leadership that is resident throughout our NAVAIR/PEO workforce.”
Ms. Lewter also serves as an official recruiter for the NAVAIR. As a recruiter she attends job career fairs and national conferences for recruiting and company recognition.
Ms. Lewter is an active member of Patuxent River Professionals Chapter where she serves as the Pre-College Initiative Chair. She also spearheaded the chartering of the Southern Maryland NSBE Jr. Chapter in November 2012, where she is the Lead Advisor, and the establishment of its SESSIONS program, STEM Exploration: Successfully Supplementing Integral Opportunities & Navigating Students. This was the first NSBE Jr. Chapter in Southern Maryland and St. Mary’s County MD.
She has received many accolades for her hard work. She was recognized by NSBE and received the National Young Technical Professional Member on the Move Award and Region 2 Leadership Award at the 2013 National NSBE Convention in Indianapolis, IN. She received the Rookie of the Year Award (2012) and Member of the Year Award (2013) from the Patuxent River Professionals Chapter for her hard work and dedication. Miss Lewter is also the 2014 recipient of the Black Engineer of the Year Award in the category of Community Service.
She is actively involved in her community; participating in STEM activities, mentoring and tutoring, and college recruiting efforts. She enjoys serving as a mentor and tutors students in STEM subjects at The Global Village Community Center. She is also an active member of Zion United Methodist Church in Lexington Park, MD where she enjoys preparing sermons for kids for their weekly Moments with Children Ministry.
