For the Meissner family, the week of the 109th Texas Amateur at Whispering Pines Golf Club will be a cherished memory for years to come. In a field comprised of 144 of the state’s elite amateur players, brothers Mitchell and McClure Meissner both finished in the top 3. Mitchell won the championship with a 72-hole total of 6-under-par 282. McClure tied for third place at 288 with four straight rounds of even-par.
As always, the tournament concluded on Father’s Day. That just made it extra special for Kurt Meisser, who walked the fairways all week and cheered on his sons Mitchell and McClure.
“What a dream,” Kurt Meissner said on Sunday afternoon. “This has been a lot of fun. I have goosebumps right now. It’s very special for them both to finish in the top three and Mitchell to pull off a win like that today. He really fought hard. This is a great Father’s Day.”
