For many of us – with access to golf courses blocked for reasons complex yet understandable – the days of good walks spoiled now exist only aspirationally. But we know those days can and will return.
It is with that sunnier thought in mind we offer a sampling of stories about striking new layouts in this week's edition of GGP.
Two notable destination courses now await their official openings. They bracket a wide expanse of land and sea, from the rugged western shoreline of the United States to the home of legendary links near the eastern waters off Scotland.
In more ordinary times, two of our writers enjoyed a chance to walk those fairways. Here, John Steinbreder previews the Sheep Ranch at Bandon Dunes in Oregon, and Jeff Brooke checks out Dumbarnie Links near Edinburgh. And in these pages we've also included stories that appeared earlier in GGP, which connect to the excitement of new opportunities. Currently, our options to play still might be limited. But through the eyes of John and Jeff, we can dare to dream.
Also, as we continue to document episodes of social support coming from the golf world, Jim Nugent writes about how raingear is being repurposed as personal protective equipment in the efforts to stem the COVID-19 pandemic.
And finally, in this week's installment of The Divot, Lewine Mair shares her memory of a brief episode to which most golfers can relate and the moments of imagination it triggered.
