Bridgestone Golf engineers say the Reactiv Urethane cover they recently developed with Tiger Woods is what distinguishes their new Tour B family of golf balls. The material, used on all four models in the series, is described as “smart urethane” and designed to react differently depending on the force of impact. The engineers say it produces more spin and control on slow impact shots and more power and distance on high impact ones.
“Reinventing the Tour ball was not something that happened overnight,” said Elliot Mellow, golf ball marketing manager for Bridgestone Golf. “This is a new technology we have been working on for years. We knew there was a fundamental issue with traditional urethane covers that we needed to overcome, for golfers have historically had to choose distance or spin in a Tour ball. This new Reactiv cover provides more distance and spin in the same ball.”
The Tour B line features a pair of high-swing-speed models, Tour B X and Tour B XS, both of which are three-piece products that boast the Reactiv cover as well as the company’s patented Gradational Compression Core technology and an Active Acceleration mantle. Woods has been using the Tour B XS version, while Matt Kuchar and Bryson DeChambeau have put the Tour B X in play.
There also is something in this family for more moderate swing-speed golfers with the Tour B RX and the Tour B RXS. These, too, are three-piece balls that utilize the Reactiv cover construction. Both Fred Couples and Rocco Mediate will have the Tour B RXS in their bags when the PGA Tour Champions starts up again.
The Bridgestone Tour B golf balls carry a street price of $44.99 per dozen, with the B X and B XS available in classic white only and the RX and RXS in that color as well as optic yellow.
