The newest member of the T-Series iron family from Titleist is the T100-S. Company officials say these sticks are calibrated individually with 2-degree stronger lofts to give better players more distance on their shots while preserving the feel and precision needed for what they describe as “superior shot shaping.”
“T100-S was developed as a player’s distance iron with an emphasis on the word player’s,” said Josh Talge, vice president of golf club marketing for Titleist. “We’ve taken the most popular irons on the PGA Tour and carefully engineered them to maximize distance.”
Distance is only part of the T100-S story, adds Marni Ines, the equipment maker’s director of irons development.
“To be a great iron player, you need to be in control of your distances and also have the ability to work the ball,” she said. “The design of T100-S allows players to hit their numbers from even farther away, with the tight dispersion and proper trajectory they require to hit it close.”
Talge and Ines say the company has employed several technologies with these clubs to achieve that level of performance. For starters, they feature fully forged, dual-cavity construction, for precise distance and control, and a thinner, more responsive face, to increase ball speeds. Co-forged, dual-density tungsten weights are included to enhance stability, with an average of 66 grams placed in the heel and toe of the mid- and long irons. The top line is thin, the offset minimal and the camber made for improved turf interaction. There also is progressive set design, with blade lengths, sole widths and hosel lengths fashioned to deliver optimal center-of-gravity positioning through the set.
