What is your overall outlook for growth for next year?
The road ahead for Lancaster General Health over the next three to five years will be both exciting and challenging. The Affordable Care Act, continued healthcare reform, the aging of our community and other factors will mean dramatic growth in demand for our services. We are responding by strengthening our ability to deliver quality care that is accessible and affordable.
What is your company doing now to assure you meet those goals?
We’re enhancing our efforts to improve our community’s health and well-being, and engaging our patients more to help them become healthy and stay that way. We’re making tremendous investments in our people, facilities and technology, such as MyLGHealth, our electronic medical record, which enables patients to manage their health online. New services and additions to our network, such as the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute, new urgent care and outpatient sites, will improve our community’s access to our nationally recognized care.
What is the biggest challenge you’re currently facing and how do you plan to conquer it?
Everyone, from the government and insurance companies, to businesses and consumers, are all looking for ways to reduce their healthcare costs. Recent and projected cuts in government programs such as Medicare mean LG Health and its partners must be able to provide more services at a lower cost. We’ll be engaging our community, our physicians, employees and others as we think of more creative ways to deliver care.
What role does the Internet play in your business and is it greater than you ever expected?
The Internet holds tremendous promise in improving the health of our community. Almost 50,000 people are enrolled in MyLGHealth, through which they can communicate with their physician, make appointments, review their medical record and become more engaged in their health. We’re building online communities where patients with like conditions can share solutions and provide support – while LG Health serves as a resource for wellness advice and information.
What’s the one thing you’d like the people of Lancaster County to know about your business?
The Vision of our not-for-profit health system is to deliver on the promise of a healthier future. Each of our 7,000 clinicians, physicians and professional staff members constantly strive to engage the community and transform lives through health and wellness services, and to be there, wherever and whenever needed, providing care that is compassionate, affordable, and of the highest quality possible.
