When Shoreline Community College decided that it would provide its first campus housing option for students, it moved quickly. The 7000 Campus Living building, which offers almost 250 beds in 68 units across six floors, was constructed in only about 15 months before opening its doors at the beginning of the 2019-20 academic year.
The hall was built in response to growing demand for affordable student housing. In fact, while Shoreline students are the primary residents, the building is also open to all full-time enrolled students who meet the rental criteria. The demand proved true; the hall opened at 92% occupancy, which includes housing provided by private fundraising for five formerly homeless students. The LEED Silver hall features an airy design that includes a bright lobby, a patio outfitted with a barbeque grill and firepit, a meditation room, gender-inclusive restrooms, conference rooms, laundry facilities, and a staff workroom. The centerpiece of the hall is the Great Room, a community lounge and event space with a double-height space with wood ceilings, exposed columns and beams, large windows for natural lighting, and space for up to 80 people.
